M's going fishing in Tampa
Keep this date in mind may 15 that is the day when hank blalock’s contract runs up with the Tampa bay rays. Now this doesn’t mean that he will become a free agent right away. When the 15th rolls around Tampa bay has a decision to make. They can either bring blalock up to the majors and find a roster spot for him. Or they will have a 2 day window after the 15TH to work out a trade with a team. Seattle needs to capitalize on this. It’s still very early in the season and teams haven’t quite figured out where they want to be so there is no one out there on the trade market except for Blalock. I don’t see Blalock getting called up by the rays. They are too locked in on their roster. Blalock can play either 1st base or third base. The rays are already stacked at those two positions with Evan longoria at third and Carlos Pena at first. If Seattle wants to make a move they better act fast. You could easily offer a right handed relief pitcher and maybe one of your utility men like Tui as an option. Let’s face it the whole Griffey and Sweeney DH roll hasn’t worked out at all this year. By adding Blalock then one of those two would defiantly have to be released. I know that Blalock isn’t really the sexiest name out there for a trade acquisition but the guy is tearing it up in triple A batting 366. His stats from the 2009 season are also something to look at 25 homeruns the guy has some power. We need a lefty power hitter and this is one guy we should not pass up on. Here is a quick reminder the M’s are going to be playing Tampa this weekend so there is no doubt in my mind we can’t work out a deal.
